How do I get involved locally?

I haven't read the book... (I'm not able to read much.) So if this info is in there, I haven't read it.

How does a person get involved locally? Where does one start? Are there steps? What are the best organizations to get involved with?

And... where should one NOT start? Who should one NOT talk to first?

Elizabeth just told me that Kristina is starting a group in her community. Great! I hope she'll share what works and what doesn't.

Wanting to do this right... Any pointers?

I am living in San Francisco, and would be interested to hear what people are doing locally. There are so many massage parlours and strip clubs here that are fronts for trafficking, yet the authorities turn a blind eye here. Anyone of anything being done locally?

I searched the internet for what is being done locally and found meetup.com. I found people meeting to discuss what they can do 1 1/2 from my house and also found on this site that there were people interested in meeting in my area (philadelphia) so I decided to start a meeting to brainstrom ways in which we can help. You could also do this :)

There is a website, (http://www.myspace.com/stopthetraffik) that encourages advocates for the fight against human slavery to pass out light orange strings to show you are against the growing industry of human trafficking. That's what I've been doing lately around my school, so that hopefully my peers will pass it on to their friends as well and the word will keep spreading. Aside from that, there hasn't been much I could do. I might try to start a club next year, but I'm still making plans on what to do for that. (:
